Frequently asked questions
How do I land an aircraft?
Aircraft circle in the holding stack and burn fuel; tap one to clear it to land. Helicopters and
STOVL jets need a free pad; catapult jets land on the angled deck one after another. Keep the
landing area clear: it turns red when something stands in it, and a jet on short final then waves
off and goes around, which costs fuel and a star.
How do I move an aircraft?
Drag it to another spot, or tap it and then tap a green spot. A tractor tows it along a fixed route
(shown dashed) and stops while something is in the way, or before the landing area while a jet
comes in.
Two tows are stuck nose to nose.
Select one of them and tap Turn back.
How do I launch?
Put a fuelled, loaded aircraft on a catapult, ski-jump position or pad. It launches by itself when
an order needs it and the run is clear.
How does the hangar deck work?
Switch to it with the Hangar deck button at the top (or the H key). Aircraft sent down on
an elevator arrive on the lift below it: move them off, or the elevator cannot bring the next one
down. Damage is repaired only in a maintenance bay. To send an aircraft up, drag it onto a lift or
tap its hangar card.
Can I play without fires and MAYDAY calls?
Yes: turn off Emergencies in Settings to practise. Missions still unlock, but stars and
scores are not saved while it is off.
How do I unlock the other ships?
The first three missions of the USS Nimitz and HMS Ocean are free. Each ship pack (ten missions
and its own survival mode) is a one-time in-app purchase, or the All Ships bundle unlocks every
ship. Open Ships on the main menu, or Ships and purchases in Settings. Purchases
work with Family Sharing.
Where is survival mode?
Finish all ten missions of a ship to open its survival mode: endless random orders at three
difficulty levels.
I bought a ship on another device.
Tap Restore Purchases on the Ships sheet or in Settings.
How do I start over?
Reset progress in Settings clears all stars and unlocked missions. Purchased ships stay
unlocked.
Does it run on a Mac?
Deck Boss is made for iPad and also runs on Macs with Apple silicon. With a keyboard, Esc or Space
pauses.
About the ships
Ship names identify the real ships the decks are modelled on; the game is not affiliated with or endorsed by any navy. Aircraft are generic types.
