Meteomix — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 November 2026
Meteomix is a weather app for iPhone and iPad that shows several weather forecasts side by side, made by Istvan Gergely Jászberényi. This policy explains which data leaves your device, where it goes, and what stays with you.
In short
Meteomix has no account, no advertising, no analytics, no in-app purchases and no third-party tracking or SDKs, and the developer runs no server for it: nothing about you is sent to the developer. To show a forecast, the app asks the weather services directly from your device and tells them the place's coordinates. Your places and settings stay on your device.
On the App Store, Meteomix's privacy details therefore list one data type, Location: used for the app's functionality, not linked to you and not used for tracking. These are the coordinates the weather services receive; the developer receives nothing.
What is sent to the weather services
For every place you look at (your current location, if you allow it, and each town you saved), Meteomix asks the sources you have switched on that cover that place. Each request contains the place's latitude and longitude, to four decimal places (about 10 metres), and the forecast it asks for. It contains no name, account, device identifier or advertising identifier.
- Apple Weather (WeatherKit): the coordinates, through Apple's weather service, everywhere.
- Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com), for the ECMWF, DWD ICON and NOAA GFS models: the coordinates, once for each of these models you have switched on, everywhere.
- MET Norway (api.met.no): the coordinates, everywhere.
- GeoSphere Austria (dataset.api.hub.geosphere.at): the coordinates, only for places inside its AROME model area in Central Europe.
- US National Weather Service (api.weather.gov): the coordinates, for the forecast and for active alerts, only for places in the United States and its territories.
- MeteoAlarm (feeds.meteoalarm.org): no coordinates. For places in Europe the app downloads the warnings of the whole country and picks the ones for your area on your device.
Requests to Open-Meteo, MET Norway, GeoSphere Austria, the National Weather Service and MeteoAlarm carry the app's name in the User-Agent header, as their terms ask. Like any internet connection, each service also sees your device's IP address. Each service handles requests under its own terms; according to their policies, some keep server logs, which can include the IP address and the coordinates, for a limited time: Apple, Open-Meteo, MET Norway, GeoSphere Austria (in German), National Weather Service, MeteoAlarm.
You choose which sources are asked: switch any of them off in Sources.
Your location
Meteomix asks for your location only while you use the app (“While Using the App”). It uses it to show the forecast where you are and to find the town's name. If you do not allow it, or turn off Current location in Places, the app shows only the towns you saved. You can change the permission at any time in the iPhone's Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services.
Town search and place names
When you search for a town, what you type is sent to Apple Maps to suggest places. The name of your current location is also looked up with Apple Maps. Apple handles these requests under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Data stored on your device
Your saved places (name, region, coordinates and time zone), the last current location, the sources you switched on, the widget's place and how easily your child gets cold (for the Outfit tab) are stored only on your device, in storage shared by the app and its widgets. Recent forecasts are kept there too, so the app and the widgets open quickly; cached forecasts are deleted after two days. Nothing is synced to iCloud or to any server. Like other app data, it can be part of your device backup. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Widgets
The widgets show the place you pick and refresh about every 30 minutes, asking the same weather services in the same way as the app. They do not look up your location themselves: for the current location they use the last one the app found.
Links
Attribution lines and warnings can link to the services' own websites. Those open in your browser, and the website's own privacy policy applies there.
Children
Meteomix asks nobody, children included, for personal details. The Outfit tab's setting stays on your device.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
