Frequently asked questions
How do I add a town?
Tap the Places button (the list at the bottom left), type in Search town and tap
the town. It appears under Saved places; swipe left and right between your places on the
main screen. Swipe a saved place to the left to delete it, or tap Edit to change the order.
How do I see the weather where I am?
Turn on Current location in Places and allow location access. Meteomix asks
only while you use the app. If you see “Location access is off”, turn it on in the iPhone's
Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Meteomix.
How do I switch a source on or off?
Tap the Sources button (the sliders at the bottom right) and use the switch next to each
source. The big number, the bars and the widgets follow your choice. DWD ICON and NOAA GFS start
switched off; turn them on there if you want them.
Why is a source missing for a place?
Sources are chosen per place: each one is asked only where it has a forecast. Apple Weather,
ECMWF, DWD ICON, NOAA GFS and MET Norway cover the whole world; GeoSphere Austria only its model
area in Central Europe (Austria, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, southern
Germany, northern Italy); the US National Weather Service only the United States; MeteoAlarm
warnings only Europe. Under each source, Sources shows where it applies and which of your
places it covers. If a source should cover the place but is listed under Missing
sources, it did not answer this time: pull down to refresh.
Why do the sources disagree?
They are different weather models, run at different times and resolutions, so they often differ,
most of all a few days ahead. That is the point of the app: the big number is the median of the
sources, the bar shows how far apart they are, and “2 of 3 agree on the sky” tells you how many
expect the same sky. When they are far apart, the forecast is less certain.
How do I add a widget?
Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget and choose Meteomix (Forecast
comparison, small, medium or large, and for the Lock Screen). To change it, touch and hold
the widget and pick the Place and what to show next to the temperature (Also
show: Precipitation (mm), Chance of rain, Wind or Feels
like). The star in Places marks the place the widget shows by default. Widgets
refresh about every 30 minutes; for the current location they use the last place the app found,
so open the app once after you travel.
Where do the warnings come from?
From Apple Weather where Apple has them, from MeteoAlarm in Europe (the national weather
services' warnings, in Hungary from HungaroMet) and from the National Weather Service in the
United States. Tap a warning and Open the issuer's page for the full text.
How does the Outfit tab work?
Tap Outfit at the bottom. What to wear? shows, for today or tomorrow, what a
child should wear in the morning, late morning, midday, afternoon and evening. Set How easily
does your child get cold? from Very chilly to Never cold.
Does it cost anything?
No. Meteomix is free, with no ads, no account and no in-app purchases.
